United Launch Alliance Names Mark Dowhan Vice President of Launch Operations


Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla., (April 29, 2013) – United Launch Alliance (ULA) named Mark Dowhan as vice president of Launch Operations, succeeding Jerry Jamison who will retire at the end of June.

Dowhan will lead nearly 1,000 employees at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla., and Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., and will be responsible for integrating launch services for ULA’s three launch vehicles, Atlas V, Delta II and Delta IV, as well as associated product lines.

 “As we continue to execute an extremely busy launch manifest, Mark’s leadership and technical expertise will be invaluable to ensure mission success and perfect product delivery for our customers,” said Dan Collins, ULA chief operations officer.

Following a 21-year career as a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force, Dowhan joined the Delta team in 2000. He has served as the director of ULA’s East Coast Operations since December 2009.

Dowhan holds a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Vermont and a master’s degree in public administration from Golden Gate University.

Dowhan will succeed Jamison, who announced his retirement following a distinguished 29-year career in the aerospace industry.

“Since the formation of ULA six years ago, Jerry’s outstanding leadership, engineering excellence and singular focus on mission success has led to 69 successful launches for the Air Force, NASA, National Reconnaissance Office and commercial customers,” said Collins. “Jerry will be greatly missed at ULA and throughout the industry and we thank him for his dedicated service for nearly three decades.”

ULA program management, engineering, test, and mission support functions are headquartered in Denver, Colo.  Manufacturing, assembly and integration operations are located at Decatur, Ala., and Harlingen, Texas. Launch operations are located at Cape Canaveral AFS, Fla., and Vandenberg AFB, Calif.
